Off to Ireland

Leaving Glasgow, heading to catch a ferry then two hour ride to Ireland.

Made it to Northern Ireland.  The ferry ride was very smooth.  The ship had a café on board that let you buy breakfast or lunch.  I opted for the muffin and coffee deal.

Made it to Londonderry in Northern Ireland.  Staying at the Ramada Da Vinci.  This is the first hotel I’ve seen were you need to put your room card into a slot by the main light switches to get the power to work in the room.  Seems like an interesting idea to help conserve power or possible charge people for their usage.

To the Isle of Skye

The view from the hotel in Wick.

Street in Wick

Street in Wick

Today is a drive to the Isle of Skye. The place we are staying is small so we have been asked to downsize to just an overnight bag. For me that means the laptop backpack stays on the big bus and the Kindle Fire becomes my web browser.

This Sunday morning weather in Wick is what is shown for the typical Scottish morning, lite drizzle, overcast and a damp chill in the air. Although I would hate to wake up to this frequently, it is a pleasant sight over those hot muggy mornings in the valley.

It was nice of the staff at the Noresman in Wick to wave goodbye as we left. They had a busy night last night a birthday party, a wedding reception and then my tour group.

Stopped for tea and scones in Lairg, saw Little House on the Loch

A very drizzlly lunch, in Ullapool, but the fish burger from The Seaforth was very good.

Crossing the Sky Bridge, it’s too covered in clouds for me to get a good picture.  Look for tomorrows post to see it.

Day One London

Ok, made it into London.   They did serve dinner and a breakfast on the plane.  I didn’t sleep much cause the old dude behind me kept getting up and to use the bathroom.  He had to use my headrest to pull himself up 😦  I could have also watched some of the newest released movies; however, my video screen didn’t work 😦

The room at the Thistle is not worth the price.  It pretty beat up.  Could use some new carpet and fresh paint on the walls.  But wait the room lacks, it makes up for on location.  it is very centrally located and can you can get to many of the tourist attraction with a short walk; if you are willing to brave London traffic.  OMG, between the guys in suits riding bicycles to the messengers on motorcycles zipping in and out and between cars, I’m surprised there aren’t daily accidents.
Well, I’m off to find lunch and a mobile phone provider for data.  I’m not digging using the “free” wifi at the hotel.Image

So I’m sitting in the airport right now waiting to board British Airways flight to London. I’m so very excited to be taking my first trip to another country.

I’ll post more when I land and will include photos.
