London last day

So I’m sitting outside the London Science Museum waiting for it to open. Getting here, I just had a nice walk through Hyde Park from my Hotel. On the way I’ve seen lots of cyclists, joggers and moms pulling or sometimes pushing small children on scooters. Strangely I’ve not seen any roller blades, skateboards or roller skates.

Updated on the lack of skateboards, just saw a guy on one, and it was motorized so that may not really count.

The Science Museum was pretty cool, well the levels that were not crawling with school children.  I just avoided the floors that had the “hand’s on” activities.

The National Art Museum was very interesting.  I can see why some painters are famous.  Some of those paintings could pass for a photo from a distance.  Sadly you can’t take photos in the museum so I have nothing to show.  But I liked the work of Paul Ruben and Monet.  I bought a 95 piece puzzle of “Water lilies” by Monet. They have a cartoon by Da Vinci that seems to have been the beginnings of a painting idea that never got painted.  The painting “Sunflowers” by van Gogh was on loan to a Museum in Amsterdam. I only mention that cause of the van Gogh paintings in the museum, it was the only one I like 😦

On the way back from the Art Museum I tried to stop by and see Sherlock, but as you can see the queue was a bit long.

Tour of London

Today I toured London with a tour group and got to see the Queen and the royal family.  Here should be the links to the videos on my youtube page.

Met 3 couples from Nevada that were really having fun.  I even went to a pub in the evening to sample some local beers and guess who showed up..

So here is my shout out to Carl, Don, Arthur and their wives.   Sadly, they are here for a different tour of England.

Hyde Park to Harrods = Bad Idea.

So, I got this idea that Harrods wasn’t all that far from my hotel.  It was just on the other side of the park.  Yeah right.  I only turned on my running app when I decided to come back, it was 1.02 miles so there and back again was 2.04 miles.  Checking my fitbit I walked 6.4 miles today.  I’m over my jetlag but now my back and left big toe are hurting.. You see the domed like building behind me, …  way back there?  Would have been another 5 minutes of walking according to the sign I used for support. 😦

But here are some pretty pictures I took while walking in Hyde Park.

So now what?

Good news first.. The fire alarm at 12:10am was a false alarm. Now how do I get back to sleep after that aerobic workout of running down 8 flights of stairs?

Day One London

Ok, made it into London.   They did serve dinner and a breakfast on the plane.  I didn’t sleep much cause the old dude behind me kept getting up and to use the bathroom.  He had to use my headrest to pull himself up 😦  I could have also watched some of the newest released movies; however, my video screen didn’t work 😦

The room at the Thistle is not worth the price.  It pretty beat up.  Could use some new carpet and fresh paint on the walls.  But wait the room lacks, it makes up for on location.  it is very centrally located and can you can get to many of the tourist attraction with a short walk; if you are willing to brave London traffic.  OMG, between the guys in suits riding bicycles to the messengers on motorcycles zipping in and out and between cars, I’m surprised there aren’t daily accidents.
Well, I’m off to find lunch and a mobile phone provider for data.  I’m not digging using the “free” wifi at the hotel.Image
