Planes, Automobiles, and Trains

I’ve been waiting for weeks for this trip. I normally can’t travel until Thanksgiving or Christmas so it feels strange having this freedom in October. I hope I get to see some autumn leaves and cooler weather.

So let’s start the adventure…

Saying goodbye to the palm trees for a few a week.

Thursday’s planning made Friday’s after work rush to the airport manageable. Crossing my fingers I didn’t forget anything and hoping one pair of shoes is enough. Looking at the weather forecast, Saturday and Sunday are showing rainy days. I’m hoping the Ren Faire isn’t too muddy.

The fight from home to Austin was uneventful. A coworker was on the flight heading to LA to see her daughter. Strangely enough a young couple with the toddler are on my flight to Baltimore.

Between flights I had time to walk around Austin airport and grab a bite to eat.

The tacos were pretty good, but not $11.00 good. I should have gotten one with a corn tortilla just to compare vs flour tortillas. Next time, but at the real restaurant (Tortilla Peachs) assuming it exists.

As I always do, I had to catch some Pokemon in the airport. What else is there to do after you eat and still have over an hour until the next leg of your journey?

I finally had to stop because my phone’s battery was getting low and I needed it for my boarding pass. I found a seat at my gate near a plug and waited. Spent the time playing other games and checking email and Facebook. To my surprise my flight that had been delayed 10 minutes was now going to arrive 10 minutes early. I started to look around the gate seats and noticed most were empty.

Shortly after the gate attendant comes over the PA to saw the passenger would be deplaning and we could board sooner than expected oh and also there are only 15 of passengers going to Baltimore on a plane that holds 200.

Get your own row or two. πŸ˜†

I rarely sit this close to the front of the plane, but had to take advantage. I saw an older couple picking their seats and the husband joked about getting his own row. The wife, well I assumed it was his wife, didn’t think that was funny. They are sitting next to each other. He didn’t really protest too much so I’m thinking he would have been happy either way.

The flight crew was keen on getting the plane off the ground to get us to Baltimore sooner. The flight attendant joked she hoped we would all be in our cars heading to our destination before our scheduled arrival. I’m hoping that too, because of the time change going from CST to EST, we are going to arrive after 1 AM local time. I still need to drive to Annapolis where I’m staying to enjoy the Ren Faire on Saturday and Sunday.

One of the flight attendants just walked by again checking if we were all alright. I’m guessing they are enjoying not having to pass out 100s of beverages but still sort of lost with not much to do.

I wonder where the CST/EST line is? Since I have to keep my phone on airplane mode I can’t look that up. Like is it still 10 PM or is it magical 11 PM? πŸ€”

Made it to Baltimore 30 minutes early.

I was afraid I’d be the only person trying to get a rental but there was a bus full. I rented from Enterprise this time, they had my car waiting, heater on and trunk open ready for my luggage. If only check it at the Holiday Inn was as smooth.

I tried two sets of swipe keys and the night clerk even tried the master key with no luck. Room 248 did not want me to sleep there tonight. The night clerk found me a temporary room for the night and I will have to report my difficulty in the morning. I need to try to get some sleep.

Big adventures tomorrow.
